Ranchi: For residents of remote villages in Bano block of Simdega district, poor road connectivity had made routine journeys difficult. Reaching the block headquarters, schools and healthcare facilities was a challenge, while farmers also faced difficulties in taking their paddy, vegetables and fruits to the market. The Simdega district administration, with support from the Jharkhand government’s focus on improving rural connectivity, has addressed this gap with a new 7.8-km road connecting Banki to Mahabuang.

According to a post shared on X by Simdega District Election officer cum Deputy Commissioner, Kanchan Singh, the road has been constructed under the Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojana (MMGSY), a state initiative aimed at improving road connectivity in rural areas of Jharkhand. The road has been completed by the Rural Works Division, Simdega, connecting Banki, Ganjhutoli, Budhwatoli, Kamalabera, Kampunda, Bahada, Helgarha and Mahabuang, with the route passing by Helgarha School.

The intervention is expected to directly benefit around 3,125 people across these villages. With the road now in place, residents have easier access to the Bano block headquarters and the national highway, reducing the difficulties associated with travelling out of the villages.

The impact is also visible in everyday needs. Students can reach school more easily, patients can travel to healthcare facilities, and farmers have a better route for taking agricultural produce to markets. Improved connectivity also gives villagers easier access to government services and other opportunities outside their immediate settlements.

The district administration also ensured regular monitoring during construction. The junior engineer, assistant engineer and executive engineer conducted inspections to oversee the work and maintain construction quality.

The Banki-Mahabuang road is therefore more than an infrastructure project for the villages it connects. By addressing a basic connectivity gap, the administration has helped improve access to education, healthcare, agriculture, markets and public services, showing how a rural road can become an important link in the development of remote communities.
