Ravinder Singh Bhatt is new DGP of Bihar

Patna: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rajwinder Singh Bhatti has been appointed the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar. A notification regarding the appointment was released by the Bihar government on Sunday. Bhatti is 1990 batch IPS officer.

According to media reports, the tenure of current DGP Sanjeev Kumar Singhal is ending on December 19. Currently, Bhatti is on central deputation and holds the post of ADG, Eastern Command of the Border Security Force (BSF).

Known as an upright officer, he worked in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as the Joint Director in Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency (MDMA), which was conducting investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and in 2017.

He was also appointed the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) in the Airports Authority of India (AAI). He was also given the charge of DIG, Siwan. He is also said to have acted without any hesitation while taking action against many influential political leaders and high profile criminals of Bihar including RJD MP Shahabuddin, Prabhunath Singh and Dilip Kumar Singh. These people were wanted in many criminal cases.

Bhatti has also worked in various capacities and was known to be a daring police officer, credited with efforts for creating a better law and order situation in Bihar. His appointment comes amid the hooch tragedy in the State which has claimed the lives of over 70 people so far. /BI/
