Power Grid acquires Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III Transmission Ltd

New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has completed the acquisition of Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III Transmission Limited. This acquisition, made through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process, was conducted in collaboration with PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL), the Bid Process Coordinator. POWERGRID emerged as the successful bidder, surpassing several private sector competitors.

The project includes the development of a 765kV D/C transmission line linking the Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III substations, along with necessary bay extension work in Rajasthan. Scheduled to be commissioned within 24 months, this inter-state transmission system (ISTS) project aims to improve power transfer flexibility from renewable energy clusters in Bhadla and Bikaner. It will also support future renewable energy generation from the Bhadla-III Power Station.

Power Grid, through its Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), is actively implementing transmission projects on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. These initiatives are designed to enhance India’s transmission infrastructure and facilitate the integration of green energy into the national grid, aligning with the government’s target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

Currently, POWERGRID operates 278 substations and over 177,790 kilometres of transmission lines, with a transformation capacity of 532,446 MVA. The company has achieved a transmission system availability of over 99.8% by leveraging advanced technologies, automation, and digital solutions. /BI
