Mumbai: JSW Foundation has undertaken the task to develop Miyawaki forest and Biodiversity Park at Tarapur. This project is spread on a two-acre plot given by MIDC, Tarapur, which was being used as a dumping yard.

“We have planted 8350 indigenous trees species on 2400 square meters and on the rest of the plot, there will be a walking path, amphitheater, children’s play area, herbal garden, yoga, and meditation space, etc. This green lung of Tarapur will be developed as a Bio-diversity park, which will take two years for completion,” said JSW Foundation in a statement.

It is worth mentioning that the inauguration of Miyawaki plantation on January 28 this year was attended by Tarapur JSW team along with Amarjitsingh Dahiya and Rajesh Khera. Lata Nowal and Harsha Khera also graced the occasion along with the JSW Ladies Club members. Everyone present planted a sapling.

Dr R K Nair of Forest Creators, the implementing agency, briefed the dignitaries present about the nuances of Miyawaki forest and its benefits. The Miyawaki plantation has generated a lot of interest in the local communities. With the help of over 100 interested persons including school children, parents, teachers and 4 doctors who visited the site the team has been able to complete plantation of 8350 saplings in 4 days in a systematic manner. /BI/
