CISF’s airport stretching sessions: A step towards healthier journeys

New Delhi: In a novel initiative, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has rolled out voluntary stretching exercises for passengers at select airports across India. The move, designed to transform idle waiting time at boarding gates into a health-conscious activity, is believed to be the first of its kind globally.

Currently implemented at Srinagar, Jodhpur, Dehradun, Udaipur, Gwalior, and Bhuntar airports, the program offers passengers a chance to engage in simple, guided stretching routines. These two- to three-minute sessions aim to counteract the physical toll of prolonged sitting and travel delays, reducing risks like muscle stiffness and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

The initiative features six light exercises, including side stretches, vertical stretches, and calf stretches, led by CISF personnel trained to make the routines accessible to all. These stretches target key muscle groups such as the calves, hamstrings, shoulders, and neck, helping passengers improve blood circulation and ease tension before boarding their flights.

Passengers, both domestic and international, have praised the initiative, with many noting its positive impact during travel disruptions caused by seasonal delays, especially in fog-prone months. By organizing these exercises, the CISF has not only promoted passenger health but also addressed the hesitation some may feel about stretching in public.

Recognizing its success, the CISF is encouraging airlines and airport operators to adopt and expand the program to more airports across India. What started as a unique experiment is now being hailed as a practical and thoughtful addition to the travel experience, setting a global example for incorporating wellness into air travel.

As this initiative continues to unfold, it highlights the CISF’s commitment to passenger welfare, making airports more than just transit points—they’re now places where well-being takes flight.
