Gujarat Govt shuffles IPS officers ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has moved around 35 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to new roles.

Starting from Sunday, the changes have affected big cities like Surat and Vadodara. Anupam Singh Gehlot, who was in Vadodara before, is now in Surat as the police commissioner. Narashima Komar, who worked as an Additional Director General of Police (Administration) in Gandhinagar, is now Vadodara’s police commissioner.

Some officers got promoted too. Manoj Agarwal, K L N Rao, G S Malik, and Hasmukh Patel got promoted from Additional Director General to Director General of Police. But their duties will stay the same.

They also gave higher positions to 20 IPS officers. Chirag Koradia is now Inspector General (IG) of Police for the Border Range. J R Mothaliya is the new IG for the Ahmedabad range. Prem Vir Singh is the IG for the Surat Range now.

Tarun Duggal, who was Deputy Commissioner of Police for Zone 7 in Ahmedabad city, is now Superintendent of Police for Mehsana. Om Prakash Jat, who was the Anti-Terrorist Squad SP, will now work as the Ahmedabad Rural SP.

These changes come before the Lok Sabha elections on May 7, which will happen in all 26 parliamentary areas in Gujarat. /BI
