New Delhi: Adani Enterprises Limited has partnered with French clean-technology company Dioxycle to establish low-carbon chemical manufacturing in India, with plans to build the country’s first formic acid production facility powered entirely by renewable electricity and captured carbon.
The long-term collaboration marks Adani Group’s entry into the chemicals sector and aims to commercialise advanced carbon utilisation technologies for industrial-scale chemical production.
The proposed facility will produce formic acid, a widely used industrial chemical with applications across textiles, pharmaceuticals, leather processing and agriculture. By using renewable electricity and captured carbon instead of conventional fossil-based feedstocks, the project seeks to reduce the carbon footprint of chemical manufacturing.
Beyond formic acid, the two companies will explore opportunities to develop a wider range of low-carbon chemicals for sectors including energy, materials, packaging and manufacturing, where production processes continue to depend heavily on fossil-based raw materials.
The partnership also reflects growing India-Europe cooperation in clean technologies and aligns with India’s focus on expanding domestic manufacturing through advanced industrial innovation. According to the companies, the initiative supports the objectives of Make in India and Viksit Bharat 2047 by strengthening local manufacturing capabilities and promoting sustainable industrial growth.
