Honda brings road safety lessons to schools in Ludhiana

Ludhiana: Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has launched its first Road Safety Convention of FY26 in Ludhiana, Punjab, with a focus on building safer road habits among schoolchildren. The initiative brought together principals and teachers from 200 schools to strengthen awareness at the grassroots level.

The convention was attended by Dimple Madan, District Education Officer (Secondary Education), Ravinder Kaur, District Education Officer (Elementary Education), and Prabhu Nagaraj, Operating Officer, Corporate Affairs, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India. Educators were introduced to Kids’ Mindset Change Awareness Modules, developed to help schools guide students in adopting responsible road behaviour.

Through a dedicated digital portal, schools will have continuous access to these modules, which are available in multiple languages and can be live-streamed or downloaded. Regular content updates are planned to ensure that road safety awareness remains an active part of classroom learning.

HMSI has already held 14 such conventions across the country, engaging more than 1,700 schools and sensitising over 6.5 lakh students. With this convention in Ludhiana, the company is expanding its reach further by directly involving educators to carry the message into classrooms, families, and communities.

Honda’s global vision is to achieve zero traffic collision fatalities involving its vehicles by 2050. In India, HMSI is working towards the national goal of halving road fatalities by 2030. “One critical aspect of achieving this goal is developing a positive mindset towards road safety in our children by the year 2030 and continuing to educate them thereafter. Road safety education at schools and colleges is not only to create awareness but to introduce a safety culture in young minds and transform them to be the road safety ambassadors. It empowers future generations to become responsible and significantly contribute to a safer society,” HMSI said in a statement.

Beyond schools, HMSI has built a wide network for spreading road safety awareness. The company operates 10 traffic training parks and 6 Safety Driving Education Centres across India, with skilled instructors conducting daily sessions that have reached more than 10 million people so far. The training combines theory lessons, riding simulators, and interactive modules such as Kiken Yosoku Training (KYT), which sharpens riders’ ability to predict potential road dangers.

In addition, HMSI’s recently launched digital platform, E-Gurukul, provides customised road safety modules for age groups between 5 and 18 years. Available in six languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, it is designed to ensure that learning remains both accessible and age-appropriate.

Guided by its safety slogan, ‘Safety for Everyone’, Honda says it is committed to creating a new generation of responsible road users through continuous collaboration with educators, local authorities, and communities.
