IndiGo’s challenge to DGCA penalty fails, fines on senior officials restored

New Delhi: IndiGo has failed to secure relief from aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation, with the appellate authority rejecting the airline’s appeal against penalties imposed on two of its senior executives over pilot training practices.

The DGCA Appellate Authority, through an order dated January 7, dismissed IndiGo’s appeal against the fines levied on its Director Flight Operations and Director Training. The penalties relate to alleged lapses in the use of qualified flight simulators for pilot training at certain airports.

In September 2025, the regulator had imposed a fine of ₹20 lakh each on the two officials for what it described as failure to use approved simulators for training pilots operating to and from Category C aerodromes. Such airports typically require additional training due to operational challenges.

Following the appellate decision, IndiGo’s parent company informed the stock exchange, stating, “The matter has been disposed of by reinstating the penalty of ₹20 lakh each on the Director Flight Operations and Director Training of the company.”

The airline had earlier indicated that it was contesting the DGCA’s order before the appropriate authority, after disclosing the penalties to the stock exchange in October last year.

Shares of IndiGo declined after the disclosure, ending 1.22% lower at ₹4,844.70 on the BSE on Friday, January 9, 2026.
