Pune: Suzlon Group and JSP Green Wind 1 Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Jindal Renewables, have deepened their collaboration by signing a deal for a 302.4 MW wind power project in Karnataka’s Koppal region. This marks their second major partnership in recent months, aimed at advancing India’s green steel production through renewable energy. Combined with a previous 400 MW order in the same area, Jindal Renewables’ total capacity with Suzlon now stands at 702.4 MW, making it Suzlon’s largest-ever commercial and industrial (C&I) order from a single customer.
The new project will feature 96 advanced S144 wind turbine generators with Hybrid Lattice Towers, each with a capacity of 3.15 MW. The energy generated will support captive consumption at Jindal steel plants in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, enabling them to operate more sustainably while aligning with India’s broader renewable energy goals.
Commercial and industrial customers now represent 56% of Suzlon’s record-breaking order book of 5.4 GW, underscoring the growing role of renewable energy in powering India’s industrial transformation.
Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, expressed his enthusiasm about the extended partnership. “We are delighted to receive this repeat order from Jindal Renewables, which highlights their trust in our technology and expertise. This collaboration will significantly accelerate our shared goal of producing green steel and contribute to India’s target of achieving 50% electricity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.”
Jindal Renewables President Bharat Saxena emphasized the importance of sustainability in the steel sector. “This project is a step forward in our commitment to decarbonizing steel production. Partnering with Suzlon aligns perfectly with our vision for sustainability, and this is just the beginning. We look forward to more initiatives that drive the renewable energy transition in our industry.”
JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, underscored the transformative potential of such partnerships. “Renewable energy integration is critical for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors like steel. Collaborations like ours with Jindal Renewables set an example for how industries can achieve both economic growth and environmental stewardship. We encourage more sectors to embrace clean energy solutions for a sustainable future.”
The expanded partnership not only bolsters India’s renewable energy capacity but also positions Suzlon and Jindal Renewables as pioneers in driving sustainability in industrial operations, contributing meaningfully to the nation’s green energy transition. /BI/
