Guwahati: NTPC’s Bongaigaon unit has partnered with the Assam Forest Department to conduct a wildlife awareness campaign as part of the annual Wildlife Week celebrations, held from October 2 to 8. In collaboration with the Divisional Forest Office (DFO) of Kokrajhar district, the power major organised a day-long event at Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary, within the Choraikhola Forest Range recently.
The initiative focused on raising awareness about wildlife conservation and emphasised the role of Chakrashila Sanctuary in preserving the region’s biodiversity. The event drew participation from local communities, students, and villagers, with quiz and drawing competitions held for 160 school students to engage them in environmental issues.
Akhilesh Singh, Head of NTPC Bongaigaon, spoke about the company’s ongoing efforts towards sustainable development in the region, highlighting the plantation of 2.5 lakh trees. Additionally, NTPC Bongaigaon, in collaboration with the Indian Army, recently completed an afforestation drive, planting 62,000 saplings at Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary to contribute to ecological preservation.
