New Delhi: NTPC Talcher Thermal has rolled out the 2025 edition of its Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), a month-long residential initiative aimed at girls studying in government schools across four Gram Panchayats in Odisha.
Now in its latest edition, the programme will benefit 40 girls from eight schools located near the plant. GEM 2025 is designed to go beyond classroom learning, offering a structured curriculum focused on healthcare, education, life skills, and personal development.
The launch ceremony was held recently with NTPC’s Regional Executive Director (Eastern Region-II) Arindam Sinha as chief guest. NTPC Talcher Thermal Executive Director Vijay Chand, along with members of Vasudha Mahila Mandal and the local administration, also attended the event.
“Talcher Thermal remains steadfast in its mission to empower and uplift girls from our neighboring communities. Over the last few years, we have positively impacted the lives of around 250 girls, with an additional 40 set to benefit through GEM 2025. We believe that through focused efforts like this, we can build a more equitable and inclusive society, one where every girl has the opportunity to grow, lead, and thrive,” said Chand.
Sinha described GEM as more than just a programme. “The Girl Empowerment Mission is not just a program, it is a powerful platform for change. By investing in the potential of these young girls, NTPC is fostering leadership, confidence, and hope that will ripple through families, communities, and generations,” he said.
The event also included cultural performances by schoolchildren from the surrounding areas, setting the tone for a month of learning, inspiration and community engagement.
Through GEM 2025, NTPC Talcher Thermal continues to focus its CSR initiatives on building leadership among adolescent girls and supporting the larger goal of gender equity in rural India.
