New Delhi: National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has recorded its highest-ever single-day power generation, producing 169.34 million units (MU) of electricity on August 2, 2026. The achievement came just a day after the company set its previous record of 167.02 MU on August 1, reflecting higher generation during the ongoing high inflow season.

Congratulating employees on the achievement, NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta said, "This achievement reflects the dedication, teamwork and technical excellence of our employees across NHPC's power stations and projects. It reaffirms our commitment to operational excellence, timely project execution, asset reliability and sustainable power generation. I congratulate every member of the NHPC family for this remarkable accomplishment."

The increase in generation follows a series of capacity additions and project milestones over the past year. NHPC commissioned the 800 MW Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project, added 1,000 MW at the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, including 750 MW during FY 2025-26 and another 250 MW in May 2026, and restored operations at the 510 MW Teesta-V Power Station in July 2026 after it remained shut since the flash floods of October 2023.

With these additions, NHPC's operational installed capacity has reached 7,651 MW, comprising 7,251 MW of hydropower, 350 MW of solar power and 50 MW of wind power. The expanded capacity has enabled the company to increase clean electricity generation during the monsoon season, when water availability is at its peak.

NHPC is India's largest hydropower development company and operates power stations across several Himalayan river basins. In recent years, it has also expanded into solar and wind energy as part of its renewable energy portfolio. The latest generation record reflects the contribution of newly commissioned assets and restored infrastructure to the country's renewable power supply.
