New Delhi: THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) has signed an agreement with the Rajasthan government to develop 1,600 MW of pumped storage projects (PSPs) with a total investment of Rs 8,800 crore. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlines plans to establish two PSPs, each with a capacity of 800 MW, located at Bisanpura in Bundi and Rampura Tonk.
According to THDCIL's CMD R K Vishnoi, the Bisanpura PSP will source water from the Gudha Dam, while the Rampura PSP will utilize water from the existing Bisalpur reservoir. This approach ensures a steady water supply while aiming to reduce environmental impact. Both projects are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing sustainable energy solutions through efficient energy storage, ultimately contributing to greater grid stability.
The MoU was signed in New Delhi by THDCIL Director (Technical) Bhupender Gupta and Ajitabh Sharma, Principal Secretary for Industries and Commerce in Rajasthan, with the state's Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressing strong support for the timely implementation of the projects.
THDCIL has evolved significantly since its establishment as a single hydro project company in 1988. It now boasts a diverse portfolio of nine projects, including hydro, thermal, wind, and solar, with a total capacity of 4,351 MW. This includes 1,587 MW of operational projects and an additional 2,764 MW under construction.
