Chennai: Verizon India has launched its School Transformation Program (STP), aimed at enhancing access to high-quality education in line with UN SDG 4. As part of this initiative, Verizon India has inaugurated a new STEM lab and SMART classroom at a government school in Chennai, with Shankar Arumugavelu, Executive Vice President and President of Verizon Global Services, leading the launch.
The STP, one of Verizon India’s flagship CSR projects initiated in 2023, is in collaboration with the India Literacy Project (ILP), an NGO dedicated to improving education in government schools. Through this program, more than 13,000 students across 38 government schools in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru will gain access to digital training and science-based learning modules.
The program is designed to spark students' interest in STEM careers by providing them with a tailored digital curriculum. Teachers are also supported with resources to facilitate STEM-focused education, helping to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban students. Students will have the opportunity to learn coding and explore concepts such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Verizon India's partnership with ILP began in 2019 with the "Lab-in-a-Box" initiative, which provided STEM Science Kits to over 450 government schools, benefiting more than 120,000 students across Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka. /BI
