Special women library in Karala village, a unique initiative of North-West Delhi District Administration

New Delhi: A unique kind of library dedicated to women has become a talking point in North West Delhi District. An initiative of IAS officers SDM Saumya Sharma and IAS Vishakha Yadav, the library will help girls pursue their dreams in a better manner, writes Naina Jha of Bureaucrats India.

This special library for only women has been set up at Karala village in North West district of Delhi. It was launched as a part of a women empowerment project under ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ program. The dedicated library will encourage aspiring women and help those preparing for competitive exams.

The initiative was taken by the District Administration and was inaugurated on the eve of Teachers’ Day in the presence of Cheshta Yadav, DM, North-West Delhi, SDM Saumya Sharma and IAS Vishakha Yadav.

The initiative was taken up by Saumya Sharma, SDM, Kanjhwala, on the request of villagers to set up a library for women. The library offers ample space, good books and the highest level of safety for women.

‘Vision IAS’ has provided the books and workstations. Book racks house NCERT’s Geography, History, Mathematics and Analytical reasoning books as well as books for competitive examinations like NEET and JEE.

In an interview to Bureaucrats India earlier, Cheshta Yadav, a 2014 batch IAS officer of AGMUT cadre, had said: “Last mile reach is the most important thing for any governance paradigm.” In North West Delhi, she has laid a lot of emphasis on making women financially empowered. Three SHGs were formed and given sanitary napkins for retailing with the help of DAV Society.

“In North West Delhi- we have planned a lot of things especially for women. Apart from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) formations, we have collaborated with legal service authority for legal camps. We renovated a few Anganwadi centres and provided them with furniture in the Mangolpuri area,” she had said.

Similarly, she has set up a Public Facilitation Booth-cum-Help Desk to enhance public service delivery. It is a one stop centre for all the needs of the citizens. “We also aim to increase the comfort of citizens. Last mile reach is the most important thing for any governance paradigm. Facilitation booth is a guiding desk which explains the process in detail and helps citizens to get their work done. It was also created to eliminate middlemen,” she had told Bureaucrats India.
