Animesh Pradhan: A journey of determination

Bhubaneshwar: Animesh Pradhan, the second topper of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023, had a dream. He aspired to become an IAS officer, a goal he had set not just for himself but for his beloved mother. She, unfortunately, passed away battling terminal cancer just when Animesh was gearing up for his UPSC interview preparations.

Animesh's journey to success was not just a tale of academic triumph but also one marked by personal loss and determination. Hailing from Talcher, Odisha, Animesh pursued his Bachelor's in Computer Science from NIT Rourkela. He is currently employed at the Indian Oil Refineries in Delhi. 

His father's demise in 2015 left him shouldering responsibilities at a tender age, during his 11th grade.Despite facing adversity, Animesh never wavered from his goal. He began his UPSC preparation journey in 2022, dedicating six to seven hours every day to his studies, all on his own without any coaching assistance. Sociology became his optional subject, and his resolve and patience became his guiding lights through every challenge.

Reflecting on his journey, Animesh emphasises the importance of self-reflection and resilience, urging fellow aspirants to stay strong amidst difficulties. For him, the motivation came from within, fueled by the desire to fulfill his dreams and honor his mother's memory.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Animesh harbors a deep passion for social issues and a deep love for his home state of Odisha. He sees his future in serving his community and giving back to his state, with Odisha being his top priority cadre choice.

Animesh Pradhan's story is not just one of academic achievement but also of perseverance, resilience, and the power of self-belief. Despite facing personal tragedy, he emerged victorious, proving that with determination and dedication, even the toughest of obstacles can be overcome on the path to success. /BI
