Patna: Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) has been relentless in its mission to enhance the energy mix in Bihar, ensuring an efficient and reliable electricity supply to its consumers. With a series of modernization efforts, including the installation of smart prepaid meters and the deployment of multiple apps, BSPHCL has earned the trust and confidence of its consumers. At the helm of this transformation is Sanjeev Hans, IAS, the CMD of BSPHCL and Principal Secretary of Energy, who has been instrumental in driving these initiatives.
On July 26, 2024, a team from the Tata Cornell Institute at Cornell University, USA, presented an ambitious plan to Principal Secretary Sanjeev Hans and other senior officials, including MD of SEVA BSPGCL, Mahendra Kumar, IAS. The plan focused on promoting solar power in Bihar by proposing the installation of 10-20 KW solar plants for farmers. The team highlighted how solar power can be generated without impacting agricultural produce, offering a sustainable energy solution for the state.
The discussions covered micro-level solar installations, power evacuation, grid connectivity, and net metering. Shri Hans shared that under the fourth phase of Bihar's agricultural roadmap, the state provides an additional grant of ₹45 lakh per MW, supplemented by central government subsidies for agricultural feeder solarization.
The Cornell team commended these forward-thinking initiatives, recognizing Bihar's commitment to sustainable energy and agricultural innovation.
BSPHCL's efforts are not just about powering homes and industries but also about empowering farmers and promoting green energy, ensuring a brighter and more sustainable future for Bihar. /BI/
