Haryana creates CID-led anti-terrorism squad, sets up ATS police stations in Panchkula and Gurugram

Chandigarh: The Haryana government has constituted a dedicated Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) with its headquarters in Panchkula and exclusive ATS police stations in Panchkula and Gurugram to strengthen the state's counter-terrorism capabilities.

The new force, which will function under the Crime Investigation Department (CID), will investigate terrorism-related offences across Haryana. It will be headed by an officer of at least Inspector General of Police (IGP) rank and report to the Director General of Police through the CID chief.

The Panchkula ATS police station will cover northern and central Haryana districts, while the Gurugram unit will have jurisdiction over districts in south Haryana, including Gurugram, Faridabad, Nuh, Rewari and Mahendragarh.

The move follows Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s budget announcement for 2026-27 proposing a specialised anti-terror force. The state has allocated Rs 35.5 crore for the project.

Officials said the ATS will be equipped with modern surveillance and communication systems, specialised weapons, armoured vehicles and advanced training facilities. A dedicated training centre with firing ranges and combat simulation infrastructure is also planned.

The decision comes amid heightened security concerns, including recent terror-linked investigations and espionage cases in the state. Haryana Police expect the ATS to enhance intelligence gathering, counter-terror operations and coordination among security agencies in tackling emerging threats.
