New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, has introduced two new technology tools aimed at enhancing India's intellectual property (IP) management system. Powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), these innovations are designed to expedite and simplify trademark searches, improving both speed and accuracy. The launch, which took place in New Delhi, highlights India's continued efforts to modernise its IP services.

In addition to the AI-driven search technology, Goyal introduced the IP Saarthi Chatbot, a digital tool created to assist users in navigating the trademark and patent application process. The chatbot provides real-time support and guidance, simplifying the complex IP registration process, especially for first-time users.

With this advancement, India joins a select group of nations, including the United States, the European Union, and Norway, in implementing AI-driven trademark search capabilities.

Goyal highlighted that the AI and ML-based Trademark Search Technology will significantly accelerate the approval process for trademark applications. The new system is also expected to facilitate the resolution of trademark disputes more efficiently and may soon include official Indian languages, making it more accessible. The minister also noted plans to apply AI to streamline design approvals and enhance the quality of patent processing.

In a move to encourage innovation, Goyal reiterated the government's decision to reduce patent fees by 80% for startups, women entrepreneurs, small businesses (MSMEs), individuals, and academic institutions. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote greater participation in India's growing innovation ecosystem. /BI
