Modi completes 23 years in public service

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has marked 23 years in public service on October 7, a period that includes his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat and his current role as Prime Minister of India. His leadership has been characterised by significant reforms, technological advancements, and a renewed vision for India's position on the global stage.

Key initiatives launched during Modi’s time include the Ujjwala Yojana, which aims to provide clean cooking fuel to women from below-poverty-line households, and the PM-KISAN scheme, offering financial assistance to farmers. The Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan promotes self-reliance, while the Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Scheme supports street vendors in accessing credit. Other notable initiatives encompass the Savya Shiksha Abhiyaan for educational reform, the Rashtriya Gokul Mission for cattle development, and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme designed to enhance manufacturing across various sectors.

Modi’s impact is evident in multiple sectors, particularly in economic reform, sanitation, infrastructure, and environmental conservation. His governance philosophy includes the principle of citizen involvement, known as Jan Bhagidari, which encourages public participation in development initiatives.

His rise to national leadership is rooted in extensive reforms known as the "Gujarat Model," which prioritised infrastructure development, created an investor-friendly environment, and promoted efficient governance. A notable initiative, the Sujalam Sufalam Yojana, transformed Gujarat from a water-scarce state to a water-surplus one, establishing a foundation for the national Jal Jeevan Mission aimed at providing tap water connections to all rural households by 2024.

In recognition of this milestone, Home Minister Amit Shah praised Modi's commitment to national interests and public welfare, noting that Modi’s journey serves as an example for public servants. Shah highlighted Modi’s efforts in improving the lives of the poor while advancing national development, security, and India’s standing globally.

To celebrate 23 years of progress, the Gujarat government has announced 'Vikas Saptah,' a week-long event from October 7 to October 15, showcasing the state’s development under Modi’s leadership. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s Cabinet expressed gratitude for Modi’s guidance, which has positioned Gujarat as a model of good governance.

Health Minister Rushikesh Patel outlined the activities planned for Vikas Saptah, inviting citizens to share their experiences of Modi’s governance on social media using the hashtag #VikasSaptah. The celebrations will feature essay competitions in educational institutions focusing on development themes, wall paintings at significant development sites, and the inauguration of projects worth over ₹3,500 crore.

Throughout the week, there will be special observances centred on Youth Empowerment, Good Governance, Entrepreneurship, and Health and Nutrition. 'Vikas Walks' are planned at 23 iconic locations across Gujarat, encouraging public participation in recognising the state's development story.

Modi’s tenure has transformed Gujarat and established a framework for national progress. His governance model emphasises comprehensive development across industrial, agricultural, and service sectors, changing the narrative from a state previously challenged by power shortages and inadequate healthcare to one showcasing growth and opportunity.

The journey from Kutch’s post-earthquake recovery to Gujarat's economic landscape aligns with Modi's five-pillar framework: Urja Shakti, Jal Shakti, Gyan Shakti, Jan Shakti, and Raksha Shakti. These pillars continue to drive the state forward, reflecting Modi's vision for a Viksit Bharat, or developed India, by 2047.
