New Education Policy has ushered in positive change, opened vistas of new possibilities: PM

New Delhi: To commemorate the third anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam, 2023 on July 29, 2023.

In his speech, PM emphasized India's increasing importance as a "nursery of new possibilities." He mentioned that several nations are reaching out to India to establish IIT campuses and global universities are displaying keen interest in setting up campuses in the country.

At the event attended by students, teachers, academics, scholars, cabinet ministers, officials and other stakeholders, PM launched 100 books in 12 Indian languages in line with NEP 2020’s aim of promoting regional languages.

Adhering to the core vision of the NEP which focuses on 'Equitable and Inclusive Education’, PM said, “Students across the country, from school up to higher education, will now be able to study in their mother tongue as textbooks will be available in 22 Indian languages soon.”

The NEP's journey has been remarkable and it has ushered in positive changes in the education system. By addressing various challenges and making concerted efforts, the country has moved closer to realizing the NEP's objectives.

“When we introduced NEP, a huge challenge lay before all of us. But with the help of teachers, academicians, experts and students, we were able to make it successful. They took it as a mission to implement the NEP across the country, which is a huge feat in itself. I am grateful for their invaluable contributions,” PM said.

Within the framework of NEP 2020, vocational education receives considerable emphasis as it becomes an integral part of mainstream education. Through this integration, Samagra Shiksha is harmonized with the Skill India Mission, facilitating the introduction of skill development programs at the school level.

India's aspiration to become the world's third-largest economy hinges significantly on nurturing a highly skilled and capable workforce. The NEP plays a pivotal role in this endeavour by empowering academic institutions in the country to establish a strong array of online educational resources.

Over the course of three years, the NEP has exemplified ambitious aspirations, innovative strategies and a steadfast commitment to revolutionizing education in India. As the nation enters the next phase of its educational transformation, the far-reaching impact of the NEP is projected to endure for generations, empowering individuals who will steer India's progress in the 21st century and beyond. /BI/
