
New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal has achieved a historic milestone, setting new records in captive and commercial coal production and dispatch for the financial year 2024-25. Total coal production surged to 190.95 million tonnes as of 31 March 2025, marking a 29.79% increase from the previous year’s 147.11 million tonnes.
Coal dispatches also saw a significant rise, reaching 190.42 million tonnes, a 33.36% increase from the 142.79 million tonnes recorded in FY 2023-24. These figures highlight the sector’s growing efficiency and its vital role in supporting key industries such as power, steel, and cement.
Captive mines recorded a 24.72% growth in production and a 27.76% increase in dispatch, ensuring a stable supply to core industries. Commercial mines drove the sector’s momentum, with production rising by 67.32% and dispatch by 76.71% compared to the previous year.
These record-breaking achievements reflect India’s push for energy self-reliance, reinforcing its position as a global economic powerhouse. The Ministry of Coal remains committed to building a sustainable and efficient coal sector that meets the nation’s growing energy needs while aligning with India’s green development goals.
