New Delhi: The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has announced the Swachhata Campaign, which will run from 17th September 2024 to 2nd October 2024. This nationwide initiative will be launched across 760 locations, from Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala (North to South) and Gujarat to the North Eastern states (West to East), encompassing all FCI offices, Zonal/Regional/District offices, and godowns, including remote areas.
The campaign will focus on three key areas, adopting a ‘whole of society’ approach. The first area, Sampoorna Swachhata & Swachhata Lakshit Ekai, will target a time-bound transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and overall cleanliness. This includes drives inside and outside Depots/Godowns to address dirty and difficult garbage spots (Black Spots), and organising school awareness camps, special mass cleanliness drives, and similar activities.
The second area, Swachhata ki Bhagidari, will emphasise public participation, awareness, and advocacy. It will involve cleanliness pledges across FCI offices, cultural activities, mini marathons, walkathons, and cyclothons.
The third area, Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs, will provide preventive health check-ups and social security coverage for sanitation workers.
Special emphasis will be given to CTU sites and Black Spots, in line with this year’s theme “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata”. The FCI integrates the concept of “Swachhata” into its food security operations nationwide. It procures wheat and paddy from farmers at MSP and ensures that wheat and rice are available throughout the country by transporting approximately 50 million tonnes of food grains annually. These grains are stored in over 2000 godowns and distributed through a vast network of Fair Price Shops across 28 states and 8 union territories.
The progress of the campaign will be monitored regularly on the SHS Portal (https://swachhatahiseva.gov.in). As the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign unfolds from 17th September to 2nd October, culminating on Swachh Bharat Diwas, it offers an opportunity for all citizens, partners, and stakeholders to actively engage in this national initiative. /BI
