HURL inks four MoUs to boost health, nutrition, accessibility and women’s education

New Delhi: In regions where access to basic services often decides the pace of progress, Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) has moved to widen its social footprint by signing four MoUs aimed at improving health, nutrition, accessibility and educational opportunities. The initiatives, part of its CSR commitments, collectively weave a picture of targeted interventions designed to close long-standing developmental gaps.

The first of these efforts, Project POSHAN, turns the spotlight on malnutrition among women in Raghunathpur and Patia in Bhubaneswar. In partnership with Parichay Foundation, the project will support 190 underprivileged women through regular nutrition packages, supplements, medical check-ups and personalised counselling by trained nutritionists. The goal is not just to distribute aid but to steadily improve haemoglobin levels, BMI and overall well-being through awareness sessions and consistent follow-ups.

From nutrition to education, HURL’s second initiative—Project AASHIYANA—extends support to young women aspiring for higher studies. The company has signed an MoU with The Kalgidhar Trust to construct a two-storey girls’ hostel with 14 rooms at Eternal University, Baru Sahib, in Himachal Pradesh. Housing 42 students, the facility is expected to offer safe accommodation, hygiene amenities and dedicated study spaces, easing the journey for girls from rural and underserved regions who often struggle with mobility and socio-economic barriers.

Continuing this focus on inclusion, Project Swasthya Sathi addresses another pressing need: accessibility. In collaboration with ALIMCO, HURL will organise specialised assessment and distribution camps around its units in Gorakhpur, Barauni and Sindri. Over the course of a year, nearly 7,500 Divyangjan and senior citizens are expected to receive aids such as prosthetic limbs, tricycles, wheelchairs, walkers, hearing aids and spectacles—interventions that can significantly enhance mobility, dignity and independence.

Building on health efforts at the household and community level, the fourth MoU—Project Sehat Sathi—looks at strengthening primary healthcare systems in the same locations. Partnering with HLFPPT, the project includes upgrading PHC/CHC/HWC facilities, introducing advanced diagnostic equipment like ultrasound and phaco machines, and improving maternal and family planning services. Training programmes for medical and paramedical staff, ANC check-ups, behaviour change outreach and distribution of wheelchairs further extend its impact. An estimated 50,000 people are expected to benefit, with the initiatives aligned to national quality frameworks such as Kayakalp, NQAS and LaQshya.

Together, these four projects form a cohesive effort—ranging from improving nutrition and enabling education to expanding healthcare access and supporting mobility. Through these interventions, HURL reinforces its commitment to building stronger, more inclusive communities, staying true to its guiding motto: “हर एक काम देश के नाम।”
