SJVN organises walkathon and cleanliness drive in Shimla

Shimla: SJVN marked its ongoing Swachhata Hi Sewa 2024 initiative with a walkathon and cleanliness drive in Shimla, aimed at raising awareness about environmental preservation and promoting community participation in cleanliness efforts. The campaign, running from 17th September to 2nd October 2024, is part of a larger national effort to emphasise the importance of cleanliness and environmental stewardship.

The event saw participation from SJVN employees, students from Government High School (GHS) Navbahar, and local authorities. Director Personnel (designate) Ajay Sharma, Executive Director (Civil) S. Maraswamy, Executive Director (HR) Chandra Shekhar Yadav, and other senior officials joined in to support the initiative. The event kicked off with the Swachhata Anthem, setting the tone for the day’s activities.

The walkathon, which began at the SJVN Office Complex and concluded at Dhobi Ghat in Chotta Shimla, drew around 150 participants, including enthusiastic students from GHS Navbahar. The event highlighted the critical message of cleanliness and environmental responsibility, with participants walking together to promote community-driven sanitation efforts.

Following the walkathon, a comprehensive cleanliness drive was held at Dhobi Ghat, in collaboration with sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation of Shimla. This initiative focused on improving local sanitation facilities and raising awareness within the community about the importance of maintaining clean surroundings.

As part of the campaign, a poster-making competition was organised on 24th September, in which 60 students from GHS Navbahar took part. The winners were honoured for their creativity and dedication to the cause, further encouraging community engagement in cleanliness efforts. /BI
