Prime Minister Narendra Modi promptly extended his congratulations, referring to Trump as a “friend” and expressing eagerness to enhance the India-US partnership. Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter) about his conversation with Trump, highlighting shared ambitions for expanding cooperation in defence, technology, energy, and space, aimed at promoting global stability and prosperity.

Modi, echoing his longstanding rapport with Trump, emphasised India’s dedication to furthering the strategic relationship between the two nations.
In New Delhi, sources shared that Trump expressed deep admiration for India, referring to it as a “magnificent country” and noting the significance of his connection with Modi. Trump’s warm remarks highlight his commitment to India-US ties, reportedly calling Modi one of the first leaders he reached out to following his victory.

Analysts in India view Trump’s second term as an opportunity to build on recent advancements in technology and security collaboration. Arun Singh, former ambassador to the US, pointed to the strengthening of India-US defence ties under Trump’s previous term, recalling instances like the leasing of advanced US drones to India and support provided during India’s border challenges in 2020.
Some experts remain cautious, noting that challenges could arise in trade and immigration policies. Trump's prior administration saw fluctuations in these areas, and while his second term may continue to prioritise India-US cooperation, analysts expect potential challenges in balancing trade and immigration interests.
