Maharashtra: Major bureaucratic rejig, 20 IAS officers shuffled

Mumbai. The Maharashtra government has ordered the transfer of 20 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, aiming to bring new perspectives and strengthen administrative capabilities within various departments. Among the notable transfers is the appointment of Sujata Saunik as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the home department.

Sujata Saunik, a 1987 batch IAS officer, previously served as ACS in the general administration department (GAD). Her new role in the home department reflects the government's strategic focus on maintaining law and order in the state.

Another key transfer involves S V R Srinivas, a 1991 batch IAS officer, who was heading the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). He has been assigned the responsibility of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, showcasing the government's commitment to revitalizing important urban development initiatives.

Lokesh Chandra, who previously held the position of General Manager of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking Ltd (BEST), has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of the state-run power company MAHADISCOM. His extensive experience and expertise will contribute to the effective management and growth of the power sector in Maharashtra.

Other notable appointments include Radhika Rastogi and I A Kundan, who have been posted as Principal Secretaries of the planning department and minority development department, respectively. Sanjeev Jaiswal, previously the Principal Secretary of the water supply and sanitation department, is now serving as the Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

The reshuffle also entails the appointment of Vijay Singhal as the new General Manager of BEST and Tukaram Mundhe as the Secretary of the Marathi Bhasha department, emphasizing the government's focus on effective public service delivery and language preservation.

Chandrakant Pulkundwar, a 2008 batch officer, previously Chief of the Nashik Municipal Corporation, has been designated as the Commissioner of Sugar, Pune, further strengthening the state's agricultural and sugar sectors.
