New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced on Monday, 12 August 2024, that it has secured a contract for a 1,600 MW thermal power project from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The coal-based power unit will be established in the Koderma district of Jharkhand on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis.
The Koderma Supercritical Thermal Power Project (STPP), with a capacity of 2x800 MW, was awarded to BHEL through International Competitive Bidding (ICB). This project represents a significant milestone for DVC as it is the first of its kind with such capacity. The new units will be installed adjacent to the existing 2x500 MW units, which were also set up by BHEL.
BHEL has highlighted its long-standing partnership with DVC, having installed over 80 per cent of the coal-based power stations for the utility in Jharkhand and West Bengal. The new project will involve the supply, erection, and commissioning of the units, along with associated civil works. Key equipment for the project will be provided by BHEL’s manufacturing units. /BI
