New Delhi: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has successfully completed the electrification of the entire Delhi stretch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, paving the way for trial runs to begin shortly. The latest milestone was achieved with the charging of the 25 kV Over Head Equipment (OHE) between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar stations, signalling that the section is now fully energised and ready for train movement.
The development marks a significant step in advancing the 82.15-kilometre-long Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), which will connect Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut as part of efforts to boost seamless mobility in the National Capital Region. This corridor is the first to be implemented under the NCRTC’s RapidX project, aimed at transforming regional transit through high-speed connectivity.
Once operational, the corridor promises to cut travel time considerably between the three cities, easing congestion and offering a reliable alternative for daily commuters. Preparations are now in motion for trial operations on the newly electrified section, moving the ambitious project closer to full-fledged services.
