Mumbai: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), a leading name in energy innovation and corporate sustainability, has taken a major step toward wildlife conservation by adopting endangered species across two renowned wildlife sanctuaries in India. This initiative, part of HPCL’s Golden Jubilee celebrations themed “Panchatatvon Ka Maharatna,” reflects the company’s commitment to preserving biodiversity and protecting endangered animals listed on the IUCN Red List.
HPCL has adopted three Red Pandas - Lucky, Motok, and Dokhbu - at the Himalayan Zoological Park (HZP) in Gangtok, Sikkim. These iconic creatures, symbols of ecological balance, will now receive top-tier care, including food, medication, and habitat support, through HPCL’s sponsorship.
Additionally, the corporation has adopted two tigers - Bajirao (T-5) and Shrivalli (T-3) - at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Mumbai. Bajirao, a 12-year-old tiger, and Shrivalli, a 4.5-year-old tigress, represent India’s national animal and play a vital role in maintaining ecological harmony. HPCL’s support ensures they receive enhanced care and attention, aiding conservation efforts.
This dual adoption initiative highlights HPCL’s dedication to preserving India’s rich biodiversity. By supporting the conservation of these endangered species, HPCL is not only protecting wildlife but also promoting the regeneration of forests and encouraging ecotourism.
HPCL plans to integrate these magnificent creatures as mascots in its communication campaigns to inspire greater public involvement in environmental preservation. These efforts align with HPCL’s corporate values of power, energy, courage, and environmental stewardship, setting a benchmark for corporate responsibility in India.
