Namrup IV set to take off as new JV takes shape in Assam

New Delhi: Oil India Limited has joined hands with the Government of Assam, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL), and Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) to form a new joint venture company named Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL).

The company, incorporated on July 25, will lead the development of the Namrup IV Ammonia-Urea Complex in Namrup, Assam. The project aims to boost fertilizer production capacity in the Northeast, addressing rising demand and modernising existing infrastructure.

Oil India Limited has subscribed to 18,000 equity shares at Rs 10 each, acquiring an 18 percent stake with an initial investment of Rs 1.8 lakh. The total subscribed capital of AVFCCL stands at Rs 10 lakh, comprising 1,00,000 equity shares.

Backed by the Department of Fertilizers under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the new plant is expected to improve urea availability and contribute to regional growth and employment. The initiative is part of the Centre’s broader efforts to reduce reliance on imported fertilizers and strengthen agricultural infrastructure.

AVFCCL reflects a coordinated push by central and state entities, along with public sector undertakings, to enhance food security and build capacity in the fertiliser sector.
