New Delhi: NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Honeywell UOP India Pvt Ltd to explore the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), aimed at supporting India's decarbonisation goals in the aviation sector. The MoU was formally exchanged between NTPC's Executive Director (Hydrogen) DMR Panda and Honeywell UOP's Vice President & General Manager (ESS) Ranjit Kulkarni on April 25.
As part of the collaboration, the two companies will conduct a feasibility study for SAF production using Honeywell’s proprietary eFining™ technology. The project will focus on using captured carbon dioxide emissions from NTPC’s power plants alongside green hydrogen produced through NTPC’s renewable energy initiatives.
The agreement is a key development for NTPC Green's Green Hydrogen Hub project at Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh, a 1,200-acre site being developed into a hub for green chemicals and sustainable manufacturing.
“The partnership with Honeywell UOP leverages cutting-edge technology and aligns with NTPC’s vision of achieving a 60 GW renewable energy portfolio by 2032,” the company said in an official statement.
Bringing together Honeywell’s expertise in SAF technologies and NTPC’s leadership in renewable energy and green hydrogen, the collaboration is expected to contribute meaningfully to India’s broader green energy ambitions. It also strengthens India’s position in the global move towards clean aviation fuel alternatives, supporting the transition to a lower-carbon economy.
