New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has installed 43 bio-toilets across its mining zones under the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, hygiene, and inclusivity at the workplace.

As part of the initiative, 16 bio-toilets were inaugurated in the Sohagpur Area and 27 in the Bhatgaon Area. The installations aim to improve sanitation infrastructure in mining regions, where access to conventional facilities is often limited.

Aligned with the vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the bio-toilets are designed to convert waste into non-toxic water and gas through microbial action, ensuring effective waste management while reducing environmental pollution and conserving water resources.

The initiative also focuses on inclusivity and the dignity of workers, particularly women in field and mining operations, by providing safe and hygienic sanitation facilities closer to their workplaces. This move contributes to creating gender-friendly and sustainable work environments across SECL’s operational areas.

Conducted from 2 to 31 October 2025, Special Campaign 5.0 is a nationwide effort by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances to promote cleanliness, record management, and efficient disposal of pending matters across government departments and PSUs.

SECL’s participation in the campaign includes a range of activities centred on cleanliness, digital transformation, and improved public service delivery, reflecting its focus on responsible and people-centric mining practices.
