Bengaluru: Infosys Foundation, the CSR arm of Infosys, has launched its inaugural ‘Month of Gracious Giving’ initiative this September across Infosys Development Centers in India. As part of this initiative, Infosys employees produced over 200,000 seedballs in just one hour. These seedballs will be used for reforestation projects at more than 20 locations across India, helping to restore native flora, promote biodiversity, and support local ecosystems.

A wide variety of native plant seeds, including Neem, Tamarind, Sandalwood, Teak, and Mahogany, will be planted in designated reforestation areas such as Bannerghatta National Park in Bengaluru, Utkalmani Gopalbandhu Ashram Grounds in Bhubaneswar, and the Yeoor Hills in Mumbai.

This record-setting achievement marks the beginning of a month-long series of employee-focused volunteering activities at Infosys, aimed at community engagement and environmental sustainability.

Shaji Mathew, Trustee of Infosys Foundation, said, “The ‘Month of Gracious Giving’ stands as a testament to Infosys Foundation’s continued commitment towards creating a positive societal impact. The seedball initiative is part of our broader effort to embed volunteering into our culture, enabling Infoscions to make a lasting impact on the environment and local communities. This achievement also exemplifies Infosys' long-standing dedication to ecological stewardship and social responsibility.”

Neelam Kapoor, Head of Wonder Book of Records, remarked, “We are delighted to recognise Infosys Foundation for their remarkable contribution to our mission of planting 200,000 seedballs. This initiative is about more than planting seeds—it’s about fostering hope, resilience, and a vision for a greener future. Infosys Foundation has shown true leadership and commitment to sustainability by partnering with us to breathe life into barren lands. Together, we are cultivating a future where our planet thrives, and we are proud to honour Infosys for being a crucial part of this transformative journey.”

Through its various environmental initiatives, Infosys has planted over a million trees across its Development Centers, including its Mangalore SEZ campus, where over 500,000 trees have been planted. The reforestation efforts at Mangalore have transformed the once-barren land into a lush green rainforest, featuring trees native to the region. /BI
