Jaipur: For students in remote parts of Rajasthan’s Baran district, access to quality education often means travelling to cities or coaching hubs. The district administration, in partnership with NTPC, is now bringing academic instruction and career guidance closer to home through ‘Mission Samarthya-Samarth Yuva’.
Spearheaded by Baran Collector Balmukund Asawa, the initiative aims to develop government schools into learning centres equipped with digital infrastructure. Of the 12 senior secondary schools identified across all eight blocks of the district, 11 are currently operational, with regular interactive classes being conducted since August 15.
A central control room has been established at the Government Girls’ School near Shriram Stadium in Baran’s Old Civil Line area. Faculty members conduct live sessions from the centre, which are simultaneously transmitted to connected schools through audio-visual and video-conferencing systems.
NTPC has supported the initiative under its CSR programme, providing high-speed internet, uninterrupted power supply systems, dedicated lease lines and video-conferencing facilities.
The digital model is also being used to address shortages of teachers in subjects such as mathematics and science. A single faculty member can conduct live classes for students across multiple schools, giving students in remote locations access to specialised instruction.
The programme covers more than the regular curriculum, with sessions on General Studies, English speaking, English grammar and career guidance. Students are also provided information on higher education, employment opportunities and vocational training.
Collector Asawa said two 45-minute instructional sessions are held every day, with additional classes arranged whenever required. Around 500 students are currently enrolled across the 11 operational centres, with batches of approximately 30 students.
The administration has also placed special focus on female students in Classes 10 to 12, with the objective of improving their access to competitive-exam preparation, career counselling and information about higher education opportunities.
District Information Officer Poonam Patni said 11 of the 12 schools initially selected across the eight blocks are currently functioning as Samarthya Kendras based on the available funding. The programme is aimed at expanding access to digital learning and academic and career guidance for students in Baran’s rural areas.
