Ludhiana Municipal Corporation sets up 24 x 7 flood control room to address monsoon challenges

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has established a dedicated 24 x 7 flood control room at its Daresi sub-zone office. This strategic initiative aims to swiftly address waterlogging complaints and effectively manage other rain-related issues faced by the city's residents.

To ensure quick and easy access to the control room, concerned individuals can dial the helpline number 0161-2749120. The flood control room will remain operational and fully staffed until September 15.

Acknowledging the criticality of prompt action during emergency situations, Corporation Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal has issued strict instructions to senior officials from various branches within the organization.

These officials, including superintending engineers, municipal town planners, executive engineers, health officers, chief sanitary inspectors, and others, have been directed not to leave the city without obtaining prior permission throughout the monsoon season.

To ensure the smooth functioning and round-the-clock operation of the flood control room, a comprehensive duty roster has been meticulously prepared, with staff members assigned to work in three shifts.

Additionally, employees from various branches, such as the operations and maintenance cell and health department, have been specifically instructed not to leave the city without obtaining the necessary permission.

Aggarwal has further emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring of ground-level situations by zonal commissioners. These officials have been tasked with overseeing regular cleaning activities of road gullies and sewers to mitigate the risks of waterlogging.

Furthermore, they have been directed to ensure the optimal functioning of pumping stations. To effectively address the issue of rainwater accumulation, generator sets will be strategically installed at pumping stations and disposal points, particularly in low-lying areas. Moreover, sandbags have been arranged at zonal levels to enable swift response and effective management of any unforeseen emergencies.

The establishment of the 24x7 flood control room, coupled with the stringent instructions for officials, reflects the Corporation's unwavering commitment to providing a safe and efficient response system during the monsoon season, ensuring the well-being and safety of the residents of Ludhiana. /BI/
