Samsung ramps up India production as demand surges for advanced devices

New Delhi: Samsung is expanding manufacturing of its advanced technology devices in India, including laptops, as part of the government’s push to strengthen domestic electronics production.

Union minister for electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a post on X that, “Samsung continues to expand manufacturing of its advanced technology devices in ‘Bharat’, driven by talent and innovation. Its research unit in ‘Bharat’ has more than 7,000 engineers.”

India’s electronics sector has grown rapidly over the past decade, with production rising from $31 billion in 2014-15 to $133 billion in 2024-25. Exports of electronics products also climbed more than 47 per cent in the first quarter of 2025-26 compared with the same period last year.

The minister noted that India has gone from just two mobile manufacturing units in 2014 to over 300 now, reflecting the impact of reforms aimed at making the country self-reliant in production.

In the traditional PC market, shipments of desktops, notebooks, and workstations grew 7.1 per cent year-on-year in Q1 FY26 to 3.39 million units, according to IDC data.

Samsung India has also reported strong demand for its newly launched Galaxy Z Fold7 smartphone, made at its Noida factory. “The unprecedented demand has made us allocate stocks of the Galaxy Z Fold7 across the deeper pockets of Bharat. We are immensely encouraged by the new demand surfacing from tier 4 and beyond and will continue to serve these markets in the best possible manner,” said Raju Pullan, senior vice president and head at Samsung India.

The company said the device has gone out of stock in some markets, and additional production is underway to meet rising consumer demand.
