Raipur: Ambuja Cements, part of the diversified Adani Portfolio and the world’s ninth-largest building materials solutions company, has strengthened rural water security and infrastructure in Chhattisgarh through targeted community interventions. Implemented by the Ambuja Foundation, the company’s initiatives in Baloda Bazar have recorded a remarkable Social Return on Investment (SROI) of Rs 10.12, according to an independent impact assessment conducted by CRISIL. This means that for every Re 1 invested, Rs 10.12 of social value was created, reflecting the significant transformation achieved in water access, livelihoods, and rural infrastructure.

The study, covering 10 villages and involving 252 respondents from marginalised communities, found that the interventions have led to tangible improvements in daily life. More than 220,000 cubic metres of additional water storage capacity has been created, while household water scarcity has reduced from 46% to just 4%. The time spent fetching water has come down sharply from 55 minutes to 12 minutes. The projects have also driven the adoption of sustainable irrigation methods, including sprinklers, leading to improved agricultural efficiency.

Alongside water management, Ambuja Cements’ CSR efforts have enhanced rural infrastructure, improving roads and school facilities that have, in turn, supported better mobility, education, and hygiene. Communities reported a 60% improvement in health outcomes and a noticeable decline in household medical expenses.

Driven by its commitment to sustainability and community resilience, Ambuja Cements continues to embed social impact into its business operations. Going forward, the company aims to strengthen community ownership of water assets through user committees, expand rainwater harvesting systems, and integrate water security with sustainable agriculture.

These initiatives reflect Ambuja Cements’ broader vision of empowering rural India through efficient resource management, resilient infrastructure, and inclusive development.
