New Delhi: Rapido has partnered with IndoFast Energy, a joint venture between IndianOil and SUN Mobility, to roll out 10,000 Piaggio electric vehicles (EVs) equipped with swappable batteries throughout India.
As part of this initiative, IndoFast Energy plans to set up over 100 battery swapping stations in Hyderabad and more than 200 in Bangalore by the end of December 2024. Rapido intends to incorporate these electric autos into its fleet, aiming to enhance sustainable mobility and support a segment of its daily ride operations.
The Piaggio E-City Max electric vehicles, utilising SUN Mobility’s battery swapping technology, offer an extended range and minimised downtime. This collaboration is projected to deploy over 1,000 EVs across southern India by the end of 2024, starting with Hyderabad, Bangalore, and other major urban areas.
The partnership was initially piloted in 2023 in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Delhi, with the goal of integrating IndoFast Energy’s swappable battery technology into Rapido’s platform to boost the efficiency and convenience of electric vehicles in public transport.
