Reliance Infra wins NHPC bid for 390 MW solar project with 780 MWhr battery storage

New Delhi: Reliance Infrastructure has secured a Letter of Award from NHPC for setting up a 390 MW interstate transmission system-connected solar power project along with a 780 MWhr battery energy storage system (BESS).

Once commissioned, the platform will add 700 MWp of solar DC capacity and 780 MWhr of BESS capacity to Reliance Group’s portfolio, strengthening its position in clean energy solutions, the company said in a statement. The winning tariff for the project was discovered at Rs 3.13 per unit, making it one of the most competitively priced projects in India’s renewable energy transition.

Reliance Power, part of the Reliance Group, already operates nearly 2.5 GWp of solar capacity and 2.5 GWhr of BESS capacity. With this new project, the Group’s combined pipeline grows to over 3 GWp of solar DC capacity and more than 3.5 GWhr of BESS, making it the largest integrated solar and battery storage player in India.

The NHPC tender, covering 1,200 MW of solar projects and 600 MW / 2,400 MWh of BESS, attracted participation from 15 companies, with 14 qualifying for the e-reverse auction. The process was oversubscribed nearly four times, reflecting rising demand for renewable projects with storage solutions.

Reliance Infrastructure, one of India’s leading infrastructure firms, develops projects through Special Purpose Vehicles across power, roads, metro rail, and defence. Its portfolio includes the Mumbai Metro developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer basis, and multiple road projects executed on a Build, Operate and Transfer model.
