Vedanta announces world’s first industrial Zinc Park in Rajasthan

Jaipur: In a significant moment for Rajasthan’s industrial journey, Vedanta’s Hindustan Zinc has announced plans to establish the world’s first-ever industrial Zinc Park in the state. The announcement, made at the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024, was graced by the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal.

This transformative initiative is part of Vedanta’s ambitious ₹1 lakh crore investment plan in Rajasthan, spanning the zinc, oil and gas, and renewable energy sectors. Positioned as a not-for-profit venture, the Zinc Park will serve as a comprehensive industrial ecosystem, driving upstream and downstream industries while fostering local manufacturing and innovation.

Strategically located near Hindustan Zinc’s advanced facilities, including the world’s largest single-location zinc-lead smelter in Chanderiya, Chittorgarh, the Zinc Park will provide world-class infrastructure, reliable utilities, and a steady supply of raw materials at competitive costs. The park is expected to generate thousands of jobs and support industries ranging from MSMEs to large enterprises, with initial investments as low as ₹5 crore.

Aligned with sustainability goals, the park will operate entirely on renewable energy and host Hindustan Zinc’s Centre of Excellence and R&D facilities, promoting innovation in customized alloys and product development. A dedicated portion of Hindustan Zinc’s production will be allocated to the park, ensuring just-in-time delivery and reducing the supply chain’s carbon footprint.

The Zinc Park is designed to be a launchpad for entrepreneurs and MSMEs, offering easy access to raw materials, power, and policy benefits from Rajasthan’s business-friendly environment. The facility aims to support over 500 downstream industries while creating 2 lakh jobs, contributing to Rajasthan’s vision of becoming a global industrial hub.

“Our Zinc Park will enable the setup of hundreds of MSMEs, create massive jobs, and reinforce Rajasthan’s leadership in critical minerals and energy,” said Anil Agarwal. “With cumulative investments of ₹2.5 lakh crore, Vedanta is committed to transforming Rajasthan into a land of opportunities.”

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma welcomed Vedanta’s initiative, reaffirming the state’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment. “Rajasthan is ready to lead India’s industrial growth with abundant resources and mega investments,” he said, highlighting the state’s double-engine government’s focus on driving development and prosperity.

Vedanta’s fresh investment of ₹1 lakh crore will drive exponential economic growth, doubling Hindustan Zinc’s zinc production capacity and expanding its silver output. The group also plans to establish India’s first fertilizer plant using local resources and enhance oil production through Cairn Oil & Gas. Serentica Renewables, another Vedanta company, will develop 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity, reinforcing Rajasthan’s leadership in sustainable energy.

Recognized as the world’s most sustainable company in the metals and mining sector by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023, Hindustan Zinc’s initiatives reflect Vedanta’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and economic growth.
