New Delhi: The Central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Coal have registered 28.33 per cent year on year growth in capex achievement for the period ending December 2021. As compared to the last year’s achievement of Rs 9822.28 crore for the period up to December, these CPSEs have done capex of Rs 12605.75 crore, thereby giving a major impetus to the Covid-19 struck economy. This capex achievement is also 75 per cent of the Coal Ministry’s annual target, according to an official statement.
The Ministry of Coal has the overall responsibility of determining policies and strategies in respect of exploration and development of coal and lignite reserves, sanctioning of important projects of high value and for deciding all related issues. Under the administrative control of the Ministry, these key functions are exercised through the public sector undertakings, namely, Coal India Ltd and its subsidiaries and Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited (NLCIL). Other than Coal India Ltd. and Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Ltd., the Ministry of Coal also has a joint venture with the Government of Telangana called Singareni Collieries Company Limited. /BI/
