New Delhi: Atul Gupta has been chosen to become the next Chairman and Managing Director of Engineers India Limited, a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. His name was recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board on 17 November. Gupta is currently Director, Commercial, at EIL.

The recommendation came after interviews conducted during the board’s 111th selection meeting, where nine candidates were considered. Five candidates were from EIL, two from Indian Oil and one each from GAIL India and Bridge and Roof Company.

A Mechanical Engineer from GBPUAT, Pantnagar, Gupta joined EIL as a Management Trainee in 1992. His three-decade career spans a wide range of operational and leadership roles across process, engineering, contracts and procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning. He has worked on major projects in India and abroad, including greenfield and brownfield assignments across refining, petrochemicals, pipelines and fertilisers. Gupta served at various project locations before moving to the corporate office in 2007.

In his current role, Gupta oversees strategic and commercial functions within the organisation. His selection places him in line to lead EIL through its upcoming phase of expansion and project development.
