New Delhi: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has initiated the soft launch of its 4G services in the national capital, making high-speed mobile connectivity available to subscribers in Delhi.
According to the company, the launch is being carried out through a partner’s network access arrangement, which enables last-mile radio coverage on compatible 4G devices using BSNL SIMs. This model is designed to provide immediate coverage while the company continues with its nationwide 4G rollout under its indigenous programme.
“The Delhi soft launch is delivered as a 4G-as-a-service through a partner's network access arrangement that provides last-mile radio coverage on compatible 4G devices, with BSNL SIMs. This approach complements BSNL's nationwide 4G build under its indigenous rollout programme,” BSNL said in a statement.
The arrangement allows new customers to access 4G instantly across Delhi on supported devices. SIM cards and eKYC facilities are available at BSNL and MTNL customer service centres and authorised retail outlets.
“Starting today, new BSNL customers in Delhi can switch on dependable BSNL 4G for voice and high-speed data. We're using the 4G-as-a-service model to ensure citywide coverage immediately, while building parrallely our own indigenous network,” BSNL CMD A Robert J Ravi said.
The company had rolled out 4G services nationally last year with an investment of Rs 25,000 crore, supported by the installation of one lakh mobile towers. A consortium led by C-DoT along with IT firm TCS handled the supply of telecom equipment for the project.
BSNL has outlined plans to invest an additional Rs 47,000 crore to further strengthen its telecom network and expand services in the coming years.
