New Delhi: Deepak Gupta has assumed charge as Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL (India) Limited with effect from March 1, 2026, marking a leadership transition at the country’s largest natural gas transmission and marketing company.

Gupta, who joined GAIL as Director (Projects) in February 2022, has been spearheading the execution of key infrastructure projects including natural gas and LPG pipelines, gas processing units, and critical SCADA systems, along with green energy initiatives aligned with the company’s net-zero roadmap.

A mechanical engineering graduate from Delhi College of Engineering, Gupta brings over three decades of experience in the oil and gas sector. Prior to GAIL, he held leadership roles at Engineers India Limited and was associated with major infrastructure developments including projects of Konkan LNG Limited.

He succeeds Sandeep Kumar Gupta, who superannuated on February 28, 2026. Gupta’s tenure as CMD is expected to run till February 2029, during which he is set to focus on expanding gas infrastructure and accelerating clean energy adoption.
