New Delhi: IndianOil has announced new initiatives to support Indian para-athletes, including monthly scholarships and medical insurance, in recognition of their exceptional performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. At a grand felicitation ceremony, the para-athletes were celebrated for bringing home a record 29 medals – 7 gold, 9 silver, and 13 bronze – making it India's best-ever Paralympic performance.
The event was attended by key officials, including the Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG) Pankaj Jain, and IndianOil Chairman and Director (Marketing), V Satish Kumar, along with members of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI).
Highlighting IndianOil’s commitment, the company announced the introduction of monthly scholarships, medical insurance, and sports kits for para-athletes. This initiative builds on IndianOil’s partnership with the Paralympic Committee of India, which began in October 2023 to support the para contingent.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports praised the athletes, remarking, “India’s para-athletes continue to inspire the nation with their talent and determination. The support from IndianOil showcases how corporate partnerships can elevate India’s sporting prowess.”
Secretary Pankaj Jain echoed this sentiment, commending the athletes' achievements and urging for further enhanced support from oil companies for para-sports.
IndianOil’s Chairman and Director (Marketing), V Satish Kumar, expressed his pride in the para-athletes’ achievements, stating, “This historic success is a reflection of the resilience and dedication of our para-athletes. IndianOil is honoured to have supported them and remains committed to their continued success.”
PCI President Devendra Jhajharia emphasised the importance of IndianOil’s support, saying, “Our athletes are already preparing for future events, and the backing from IndianOil has been a key factor in their success.” /BI
