Amritsar: Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd., a Mini-Ratna I public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has announced the launch of India’s largest pod-style budget hotel in Amritsar through its portfolio startup NapTapGo. Located just an 8-minute walk from the Golden Temple, NapTapGo Amritsar aims to redefine budget hospitality with a tech-driven and cleanliness-focused approach.
This launch is a key milestone under Balmer Lawrie’s Startup Fund, which included an INR 1 crore equity investment in NapTapGo in January 2025. It highlights the company’s commitment to fostering innovation in the Indian startup ecosystem.
With 56 PODs, NapTapGo Amritsar is the first pod hotel in India to offer pod-style accommodations tailored for groups and families. It is also the world’s first pod hotel to offer attached washrooms. Emphasising hygiene and automation, the hotel features fully automated check-ins, AI-driven housekeeping, and IoT-enabled hygiene monitoring.
Designed to meet the high demand of Amritsar’s tourism sector—home to over one lakh weekday visitors and over two lakh on weekends—the project supports government efforts to enhance religious tourism infrastructure. The launch is in alignment with initiatives such as Startup India, Make in India, and the promotion of spiritual tourism.
As a homegrown, tech-first hospitality venture, NapTapGo not only adds capacity near a key pilgrimage site but also generates employment and promotes clean, budget-friendly accommodation options.
