New Delhi: The Nagarnar steel plant of NMDC Steel Limited, located near Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, has achieved a milestone by electrifying its railway siding along the Kottavalasa-Kirandul (KK) line. This upgrade is set to significantly enhance the facility's logistics efficiency, ensuring smoother and faster transportation of materials.
The newly commissioned 25KV AC overhead power supply system was inaugurated jointly by the Divisional Railway Manager of Waltair, East Coast Railway, Saurabh Prasad, and the Executive Director and Head of NMDC Steel Limited's Nagarnar plant, K. Praveen Kumar. Speaking at the event, Prasad highlighted how the electrification would streamline freight train operations and enable quicker turnaround times, thereby boosting the mobility of raw materials and finished goods.
The enhanced logistics support aligns with the plant's expanding production capacity, which began operations in October 2023. The electrification is expected to play a key role in meeting the growing demand for steel by ensuring timely and efficient transport solutions.
Plans are underway for further improvements in the Jagdalpur region, including strengthening rail connectivity at the Amagura-Anbagaon take-off point and augmenting operational efficiency with additional railway crew and train safety examiners stationed at Nagarnar. These developments aim to position the plant as a reliable hub for steel production and distribution in the region.
