New Delhi: Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR), a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bhavnagar Port Infrastructure Pvt Ltd (BPIPL) in New Delhi to operate and maintain the upcoming container terminal on the north side of Bhavnagar Port in Gujarat.
The development of Bhavnagar Port is already underway, with an agreement signed in September 2024 between BPIPL and the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB). The agreement provides 235 hectares of land to BPIPL on a 30-year lease, along with the option to expand by another 250 hectares. Once operational, the facility is expected to support the logistics requirements of Central Gujarat, the Dholera Industrial Belt, and extend services to customers in the National Capital Region (NCR).
As the Container Terminal Operator, CONCOR will take responsibility for the operation, management, and marketing of the terminal. The move marks a step into port operations for the PSU company, aligning with its strategy of forward integration.
The detailed terms of the agreement are currently being finalised. With its pan-India network of terminals and extensive rolling stock, CONCOR is positioned to deliver efficient and cost-reliable logistics services through this collaboration.
According to CMD CONCOR, Sanjay Swarup, “the collaboration is expected to provide substantial value addition to customers and further strengthen CONCOR’s leadership in the logistics sector.”
